Exciting news! The new Laramie County Senior Activity Center, located at 4125 Cox Court in Cheyenne, WY, is set to open its doors soon. After breaking ground on November 16, 2023, the project is nearing completion, with final touches underway. This impressive 17,000-square-foot facility, funded by the sixth-penny sales tax approved by voters in November 2021, will be doubling the size of the current 8,500-square-foot center.

The new center will include a variety of spaces designed to enrich the lives of seniors, including activity rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, dining facilities, offices, and support areas. These modern amenities are designed not only to meet the needs of the current senior population but also to prepare for future growth. In addition to the expanded physical space, the center will continue offering vital services such as nutritious meals, social and recreational activities, and resources for healthy living. Programs that promote independence, mental wellness, and overall well-being will remain at the core of the center’s mission, with all services provided free of charge or at a minimal cost to seniors.

Accessibility has also been a key consideration in the design of the new facility. In addition to dedicated parking for seniors, the center will feature enhanced accessibility with a nearby bus stop, making it easier for seniors to access the services they need. The location’s proximity to senior housing will also improve convenience for many in the community.

Greg Hancock, Executive Director of the Cheyenne Housing Authority, stated, “Creating a space that accommodates our growing senior population is essential. This new facility will help address that need while promoting health and well-being in the community. We are thankful to the county commissioners who championed this project and to Mayor Patrick Collins for his incredible support.”
