WRS Members
Wyoming Retirement System Membership
WRS administers eight defined benefit pension plans and a 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan, offering comprehensive coverage and options to meet the diverse needs of our members. Our mission is to provide expert administration and responsible investment of Wyoming’s public retirement and supplement savings programs.

How Your Pension Works
Your pension benefit is funded through a combination of your employer’s contributions on your behalf and your own contributions, as mandated by state statute. In some instances, employers may cover a portion of your contributions as part of your compensation package. You can review this information on your pay stub or consult with your employer for clarification.
The size of your future retirement benefit hinges on various factors, including your years of service with WRS employers, your average salary, and your age at retirement. While specifics may differ across the eight WRS pension plans, the underlying principle remains consistent.
In many cases, if you change jobs, you can continue to build your pension benefit with any of the 700+ participating public employers in Wyoming!
Lifetime Benefit
Because your pension is professionally invested, you don’t have to make complex investment decisions. Once you meet the age and service requirements to qualify for a benefit, your pension will last for your lifetime, no matter how long you live.
Access your Online Pension Account to manage beneficiaries, update contact information, view account details, apply for retirement, and more!

Pension Contributions
Your pension benefit is funded by your employer’s contributions on your behalf, as well as your contributions. Contribution rates are set in state statute. In some cases, employers pay some of the employee contributions as part of overall compensation. Check with your employer for details.
Monthly Public Employee New Hire Onboarding
The Wyoming Retirement System offers New Hire Onboarding Training virtually on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. on Zoom. In this meeting, one of the WRS educators will provide basic information about the Public Employee Pension Plan and the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
